In all religions, the focal point of most activities are temples, churches or other religious buildings. Temples no matter where they are provide a calm feeling within oneself.

Lord Swaminarayan realised that for the Swaminarayan Satsang to flourish He would need to do two things. Firstly to build temples in which people could go and worship without distraction, and secondly to write scriptures that anyone could read and/or understand, which would be read or listened to at these temples on a daily basis.

During Lord Swaminarayan's lifetime, He had six temples constructed. They are at;

      1. Ahmedabad
      2. Bhuj
      3. Vadtal
      4. Dholera
      5. Junagadh
      6. Gadhada

On 26th January 2001, at approximately 8.50am, a massive earthquake struck the State of Gujarat, NW India. The epicentre was just 20km North of Bhuj. This immense force of nature destroyed many towns and village, killing thousands. In the middle of this was Bhuj Temple, a temple constructed under Lord Swaminarayan's instruction. The temple was destroyed beyond repair, A new temple is being constructed, but a small shrine will be put up where the original temple once stood.
