During
His time on earth Lord Swaminarayan aimed to write
scriptures to further the sampraday, to reveal
the greatness of the Lord and in a way that could
be easily understood by all satsangis.
The
Swaminarayan Sampraday is based on Hindu Scriptures,
but because these are great in numbers and volumes,
and complex to read and understand, Lord Swaminarayan
took it upon himself to read, digest and then
compile new scriptures that brought out the essence
of these Hindu scripture. The content of all the
scriptures by Lord Swaminarayan is based on the
subject of religion, humanity, honesty, non-violence
and mercy to mankind
The
following are a few of the most prominent and
are read daily or on a regular basis:

The
literal meaning of Shikshapatri is the 'letter
of teachings'. Written in Vadtal on the 5th day
of the bright half of the month of Maha VS 1882,
on Vasant Panchami, it comprises 212 slokas, which
give details on the conduct of everyone, depending
on their varnas.
Lord
Swaminarayan during his life read many scriptures,
and from all these scripture he made notes of
the things that are important in ones conduct.
If one abides by the Shikshapatri it improve the
lives of individuals in this life and the next,
also they shall attain the four objects in life
being, dharma, artha, kama and moksha.
Lord
Himself wrote the Shikshapatri in Sanskrit. It
was then translated into Gujarati and subsequently
into English and many other languages.
If
one abides by the Shikshapatri it improve the
lives of individuals in this life and the next,
also they shall attain the four objects in life

| Saints
Shukanand Swami, Muktanand Swami, Gopalanand Swami,
Brahmanand Swami and Nityanand Swami compiled the
Vachnamrita. It contains details of questions asked
by the Lord, saints and other satsangis, and the
answers that are given by the Lord.
The
questions were asked and answered in sabhas at
various locations. Each sloka describes in detail,
what day, time of day, the location, the Lords
attire, who is present, who asked the question
and the Lords reply. The questions covered all
aspect of life and Satsang.
The
saints would note down all the discussions and
then the Lord would check and approve certain
ones to be added to the list for the Vachnamrita.
These Vachnamritas were thousands in number, but
our Lord has selected only 273, in essence the
Lord personally edited the Vachnamrita.
Vachnamrita
is the main scripture of our sampraday and we
have an immense amount to learn from it. If anybody
reads them attentively, they need not read any
other scripture for their ultimate salvation.
The Vachnamrita is held in such high regard that
discourses from it are recited daily in all Swaminarayan
temples.
